In the first NCAA women’s volleyball championship in Omaha since 2008, the Huskers will play the second game of the doubleheader. The Huskers will be playing for their fourth national championship and first since 2006.

Nebraska coach John Cook says the four teams that made it are proof there is great balance in the sport across the country. Amy Neal had a career-high 25 kills and Texas broke open a close match in the fourth set to beat Minnesota in the first semifinal match. Hopefully, many Kansas fans will be able to get tickets and make the trip to Omaha to cheer on this determined team. Texas has 11 homegrown players, Minnesota has nine, Nebraska has seven and Kansas has six, and numerous other players are from neighboring states.

Nebraska got out to a 2-0 lead in sets, but the Jayhawks controlled the third with Madison Rigdon and Janae Hall joining Payne in the attack.
Jayhawks: They’re in the tournament for a fourth straight year and should have staying power with a core made up of underclassmen.

Fien, a senior outside hitter, finished with 9 kills, 4 blocks and 2 digs for No. 4 Nebraska (31-4), which will play No. 3 Texas for the national title at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
