Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola says he will clarify his future at the club “next week” with his contract expiring in the summer.
The 44-year-old former Barcelona coach has been strongly linked with Barclays Premier League club Manchester City, whose interest will be piqued by the anticipated announcement from Bavaria.
Following a German Cup win over Darmstadt las night, Guardiola said he will clarify his future plans within the next seven days.
On the one hand he said in October “My vacation continues at least until the end of the year, then I will start to train. Next week there will be clarity”, Guardiola said after their DFB-Pokal win over Darmstadt on Tuesday.
Indeed it is understood that talks have progressed to such an extent that a “gentleman’s agreement” has been reached with Ancelotti in anticipation of Guardiola confirming his departure.
Last month, Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told fans to expect a ‘Christmas surprise’ when asked about the future of Guardiola.
He won two Champions League finals against United as a manager in 2009 and 2011, but Ferguson’s side did knock Barcelona out of the competition on their way to winning the trophy in 2008.
Ironically, Mourinho may emerge as a candidate for the United job if he is relieved of his duties by Chelsea and the Old Trafford club opt to replace Van Gaal a year before his contract is due to expire. We’ve all the time stated there can be a choice in 2015.
Mokbel wrote that Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea are “surveying the managerial landscape” for a new boss, and he’s “expected” to join the former of that trio.
“I genuinely don’t know where he will go but Manchester United will be high on the list, I would imagine, for the simple reason they are struggling”.
