“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” opens in theaters Thursday night

People across the Triad came out Thursday night to catch the premiere of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens, ‘ including hundreds at the Regal Grande 16 at Friendly Center in Greensboro.

“The Force Awakens is a genuine cultural phenomenon”, said Paul Yanover, the president of the online ticketing service Fandango, on December 17. Certain theater chains, like ArcLight, limit trailers, and the format of the screening will affect the selection when it comes to Disney trailers.

Bristol-born David, from Croydon, South London, appeared in Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

The theaters were open early for the first showing so people could go ahead and pick their seats.

“I think each one is about a hundred balloons or so, and it took us about six hours each to create our different sculptures”, said Brian Getz of Brian’s Balloons.

“For Star Wars fans, this is our World Series”, said Rashidi.

“I wasn’t going to miss it”, he said.

Many fans showed off their lightsaber moves, in case the dark side attacked.

Dressed as villain Kylo Ren, complete with cross-guard Lightsaber, Geoff Fossenier was dressed in full costume at the opening night of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Thursday night at the Scotiabank Theatre in downtown Saskatoon.

Sean Counihan said he was interested to see how the story continues under the direction of J.J. Abrams and eager for the trilogy to be passed on to a new generation. “We home-school, so we were able to get here at 1:45”. “And it’s like I’m in Tokyo, I’ve never been here in my life and I’ve got my image here and Daisy’s it’s quite shocking for us two Londoners – but it’s a very proud moment”.

We spoke with one lifelong fan who said the Star Wars universe has always been a great way to escape, and what their thoughts were on the security for the show.
