Mateja Kezman: Chelsea will appoint Guus Hiddink as new manager

Hudson, who helped Chelsea win the 1970 FA Cup and the 1971 European Cup Winners’ Cup, now spends much of his time writing books and he believes Mourinho has been looking all season for an end to his second chapter at Stamford Bridge.

The club sit just one point above the relegation zone after losing nine of their 16 games this season.

Speculation had been rife Mourinho would be fired in the days after the club’s 2-1 loss to Leicester City, with the Chelsea board meeting on Wednesday (AEDT) to discuss his future. “His legacy at Stamford Bridge and in England has long been guaranteed and he will always be warmly welcomed back to Stamford Bridge”, the club said in a statement.

Former Chelsea interim boss Guus Hiddink is one of the favourites to take charge on another temporary basis as the champions pursue a long-term successor to Mourinho.

“The club is working vigorously and actively to make sure the situation with regards to a managerial appointment is taken care of as soon as possible”.

Emenalo expressed confidence in the Chelsea’s ability to overcome their current challenges, starting from Saturday’s Premier League clash with Sunderland. By comparison, Chelsea lost just three games in storming to the 2014-15 title.

Chelsea attributed the dismissal to a “palpable discord” between the Portuguese and the players, and while Allardyce expects a reaction from the team, he is also intrigued by how the reaction from the fans might affect matters on the pitch.

Chelsea has remained an elite team since its acquisition by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich in 2003.

Guus Hiddink took over as Chelsea manager in 2009 after Luis Felipe Scolari was sacked and led to the side to a creditable finish in the Premier League.

“This is the same group of players who won the league and the league cup last season, they did it by sweating tears and blood”. I don’t like people being excited that a new manager is coming.

Whilst there is huge sentiment for the individual who has done so much for the club, the fact of the matter remains that Chelsea Football Club is in trouble. At the time, Mourinho – in a prescient interview with The Irish Times – said he dislikes what he said was a culture of untenable impatience surrounding English football.

For me, his sacking does not make him a bad manager.

“I’ve heard a lot of good support from the fans for Jose in this hard period, and I thought they would have given him longer than he’s had, based on the owner saying the fans hadn’t turned against him”.

With the strain beginning to show, Mourinho was drawn into disciplinary trouble, receiving fines amounting to £90,000 for criticising referees and a one-match stadium ban after he was banished to the stands at West Ham on October 24.
