India’s interests met in Paris climate talks: Javadekar
Alper Acar, Sector Manager for the Climate Change and Sustainable Development Delegation of the European Union to Turkey, indicated that even if the agreement is not completely legally binding, the countries’ targets should be consistent with conditions of the global market economy and also regional and worldwide sanctions could be enacted on countries which will not take action to keep the global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees over pre-industrial levels.

L’Appel de Paris is an inclusive initiative by the French Presidency of COP21 that invites all businesses, regions, cities and investors to join and vow to act on the outcomes of the Paris UN Climate Change Agreement. The treaty, negotiated under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (U.N.F.C.C.C), provided a framework that commits all countries to put forward their best efforts to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and included requirements that all parties report regularly on their emissions and implementation efforts, and undergo Global review. Paris Agreement acknowledges the development imperatives of developing countries.
The Paris Agreement or the Paris Climate Change Pact has been in the news of late and can be very important for your upcoming exams. “We pledge our support to ensuring that the level of ambition set by the agreement is met or exceeded”.
“…it is about building ever more support by non-state actors who are aligning with government policy as never before”. It has already been signed by more than 400 businesses, 150 cities and regions and 120 investors controlling US$11 trillion in assets. Thanks to a coalition of global leaders led by President Obama, our world is now working together to aggressively address climate change with action and results.
The third main component of the agreement, which continues to be the subject of heavy discussion, refers to participating countries’ own targets to decrease carbon and peak greenhouse gas emissions as soon as possible and to achieve a balance between sources and sinks of greenhouse gases in the second half of the 21 century. “Greenpeace International executive director Kumi Naidoo said, “The Paris Agreement is only one step on a long road, and there are parts of it that frustrate and disappoint me, but it is progress”. “The extraordinary momentum witnessed before and during the United Nations conference by cities, provinces, regions, companies and citizens was also a hallmark”. The pledge is open to more signatories and will spread around the world.

The Paris Agreement itself is profoundly inventive document.
