Nielsen’s report on Thursday didn’t forecast future sales, but Wall Street analysts expect that $5 billion-$6 billion in merchandise will be sold worldwide in the first year after Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens opens.
Walt Disney Co has “struck more than gold” with the “Star Wars” franchise and it wants to expand plans to build attractions for the sci-fi saga in its theme parks, Chief Executive Bob Iger said.
Matt Shavers, who was among the San Antonio fans, compared “Star Wars” to going to church.
“It was important that in addition to Leia, who we knew was a critical piece of the puzzle, that we wanted to have other women, not necessarily human but female characters in the story”.
The Force is already setting a USA record with “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” taking in $50 million to $55 million in opening Thursday-night shows, preliminary estimates showed.
“Ever since I was 3 years old, I saw the first movie sitting on my father’s lap and I’ve been a fan ever since”, Lindsey Vaughn said. “I think it’s wonderful that everyone’s work has been appreciated”, she said.
Star Wars newcomers John Boyega and Daisy Ridley have told of their unique experience at suddenly becoming famous.
He added: “I’m hopeful that while there will be spoilers out there it won’t detract from the hopeful thrill that people might have seeing this movie together”.
Management with AMC said it allows costumes, but no face paint or masks.
