Winnipeg theatres packed for Star Wars opening night

An Australian couple got married on Thursday as they waited in line for the first U.S. public showings of Star Wars; The Force Awakens, while movie theaters around the country held marathons of the previous films in the franchise. “The fact that this is opening all over the world today, there’s going to be no more wars, it’s all Star Wars”.

The $5.2 million it took in France was the biggest Disney opening day of all-time, as were the debuts in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, South Africa and Switzerland.

The Force Awakens was released on Wednesday this week in some European territories, and initial box office figures are already in.

The movie opens nationwide on Friday. “It was- part of me died I’ll just say that”, said Julie Osburn, Star Wars Fan.

With his passes to see the movie finally secured, his next move was to ensure that he and his friends had the best spot in the house.

Carol Vasquez (24) from South Gate, California, who came in costume, said she was excited to see the return of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo.

Killacky said her father died after suffering a stroke three days after his 71st birthday.

Babbitt, who arrived at 7 a.m., had purchased four tickets to the 10 p.m. screening months ago. But The Associated Press reported earlier today that the film has earned more than $100 million in presale tickets in North America.

Jonathan Felguerias and Kylie Shuparski showed up in costume to watch Star Wars: The Force Awakens at Silver City Polo Park in Winnipeg on Thursday evening.

That nostalgia worked for Tony Brennan, who said he “can’t get off of that high that I’m on” after seeing the film with the opening-night crowd. It passed all of our expectations.

“The Force Awakens” has sold more tickets on the online service than any other film did throughout its time in theaters – which is even more impressive than making the Kessel Run in under 12 parsecs.
