Amir May Represent Pakistan In T-20 World Cup

Pakistan speedster Mohammad Amir who has been in news since he made his comeback on the cricket field after serving a 5-year ban for being involved in spot-fixing has been picked by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in the 26-man conditioning camp ahead of the tough tour of New Zealand.

The 33-year-old – who recently took retirement from Test cricket after making a comeback to the format after a gap of five years – revealed that he was really fond of Amir and described the left-hander as a “good boy”, Cricket Country reported.

Pakistan will give Mohammad Amir the chance to resurrect his worldwide career after naming him in a 26-man training squad.

His captain Salman Butt and fellow bowler Mohammad Asif were jailed for similar offences.

Former Pakistan pacer Aaqib Javed said that it was too early to call up Amir in the national team.

At the time of his ban, which derailed his career, Amir was only 18.

Amir, who finished the Bangladesh Premier League as the leading wicket-taker for his side, Chittagong Vikings, will be looking to impress in the camp and get on the path towards re-selection before the World T20 in India.

“The main objective of the camp is to improve the overall physical fitness of all players and to enhance the technical aspect of each player’s game and to prepare them for the upcoming global events”, the PCB said in a statement.

He returned to action in March after the sanction was reduced by a year.

The 26 players selected for the fitness camp will be eligible for team’s limited over series in New Zealand starting next month, which features three one-day and Twenty20 internationals.

Amir said he hoped he could win them over “with my performances and with my acts”.

Amir's inclusion in the training camp is likely to fast-track his move up to the national side. &mdash AFP file
