Obama Reassures Americans No Credible Threat of Terror

On Thursday, the president also asked his countrymen to stay vigilant during the holiday season, acknowledging that the United States is facing “a new phase of terrorism” in which lone actors who plot terrorist attacks are harder to detect. The president said that while there is not presently any credible threat against the homeland, Americans must be vigilant.

“If you have a private communications between two individuals, that’s harder to discern, by definition”, Obama said, emphasizing that law enforcement and intelligence professionals are “constantly monitoring” public posts, and that such probes are part of the visa review process. But the apparent lack of warning before San Bernardino has raised concerns about whether the USA has a handle on potential attacks, especially during high-profile times such as the end-of-year holidays.
