Despite many sold-out shows, there are still plenty of seats available for “Star Wars”, as many theaters throughout the country are staying open 24 hours a day in order to screen the movie around the clock.

“With the increased demand for ‘Star Wars, ‘ we will continue to add showtimes to accommodate the avid fans that have been eagerly awaiting the seventh film in this blockbuster series”, said Amy Miles, CEO of Regal Entertainment Group. The film will be in a total of 4,134 locations on Friday – a record for a December opening. The current record for a launch weekend was set in June by “Jurassic World” with $208.4 million.

The figure is more than £3m ahead of the previous record holder, the James Bond film Spectre, which scored £6.3m in October. The film takes place roughly 30 years after the end of Return of the Jedi.

The real stars of the first movie in a new trilogy – John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Oscar Isaac – showcase their acting chops, making Carrie Fisher, Ford and Mark Hamill proud.
