Tim Peake Gives News Conference From Space

Astronaut Tim Peake, along with the new attendants of the ISS, will be able to watch the film on a projector on board the closest thing we have to our own Star Cruiser ship. The space station crew has gotten some help from Hollywood before. Mr. Peake is among six astronauts living and working in space. He will have to carry out several experiments, ranging from tests on certain metals, growing blood vessel cells and protein crystals in a microgravity environment, simulating atomic structures, and charting areas in the brain as they adapt to stressful situations.

Asked if he had mastered the famous zero-gravity somersault, Major Peake said he had “definitely not” mastered it, but still attempted the backwards somersault to a round of applause from the watching journalists.

The handover followed weeks of on-orbit testing of the satellite, and completed a successful launch campaign that came months after Mexico lost an identical satellite to a failed launch by a Russian Proton rocket.

He has also received messages of support from the Queen and Sir Elton John, who tweeted: “From one Rocket Man to another, good luck @astro_timpeake with your launch and mission!”

As a keen quantum physics and cosmology enthusiast, Peake aims to inspire the younger generation to get into science during his time in space.

He said: “We are very excited about the Star Wars movie, we are all fans up here”.
