Miller will enter the Hall alongside Cheap Trick, Deep Purple, Steve Miller, Chicago and N.W.A. The guitarist has been eligible for entry since 1993 and the 2016 honor marks his first nomination. No word on if the original members of each band will do so at this point.

Deep Purple joins two other British groups already in the Hall of Fame – Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath – that together spawned hard rock. But as for fellow inductees Steve Miller and soft-rock titans Chicago, I’d call those inclusions a stretch, wouldn’t you?
The guitar riff for Deep Purple’s “Smoke on the Water” remains one of the most recognizable in rock history. As usual, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced an eclectic list of inductees for 2016. This would please him I think because the music that we did is a force to be reckoned with.
