It is generally Black Friday that gets all the publicity, but merchants are expecting that shoppers will make the most of “Super Saturday” which is the Saturday before Christmas. Stores say they are marked down for potential Christmas gifts. Also, starting on Wednesday, Toys R Us will keep their doors open for 39 straight hours, leading up to 9 p.m., Christmas Eve.

Kohl’s is opening for 170 straight hours until 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve (that’s about 70 hours longer than last year’s round-the-clock shop-a-thon).

The holiday season is crucial to retailers, which can make up to 40 percent of their annual sales during that time. Online sales on Black Friday increased 21.5% and mobile traffic accounted for more than 57% of all online traffic, up 15.2% from Black Friday 2014, according to IBM Watson Trend.

Beth Griner of Girard says, “We haven’t even started yet”.

For some people, their excuse for the last-minute shopping trip is simply because they hadn’t had a chance to get the Christmas shopping done.

“I got a $260 auto seat fro $120 bucks”, says Burgess. Coats, sweaters and boots will already be deeply discounted starting this weekend at stores including Macy’s, Kohl’s, Kmart and Sears. This is partly due to the fact that many of our resident retailers are holding sales that are too good for shoppers to miss.
