Eddie Redmayne and Cate Blanchett lead SAG Awards nominations
The biggest surprises were Mirren’s second nomination as best actress for the poorly received (but heavily campaigned) “Woman in Gold” and an even more WTF best actress nod for Sarah Silverman in the little-seen “I Smile Back”.

The hit HBO series and its stellar cast earned a total of three nominations, which might not sound like much, but it actually tied with Homeland and House of Cards for the most nominations in the television category.
Oh well. Let’s save some outrage for the Golden Globe nominations on Thursday morning. Seeing as it is the actor’s guild, exclusively acting is recognized, and thus the categories are redefined.
In addition, TV comedy legend Carol Burnett will receive the SAG Lifetime Achievement Award.
The SAGs are often a solid early indication of Oscars hopes, since members of the acting guild represent some 20 percent of the roughly 6,000 voting members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Elba secured a third mention for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture for Beasts of No Nation.
Elsewhere in film, SAG saw fit to fill its Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading (film) Role category with naught but portrayals of real-life guys, including Johnny Depp as Whitey Bulger in Black Mass, Michael Fassbender’s take on Steve Jobs, and Cranston as the aforementioned old coot. “I’m honored to be nominated by SAG not only because they are my peers, but also because I’m overwhelmed to be recognized alongside actors whose work I admire so much”, she said”.
The surprise nod for Murray, plus nomination newcomers Ellie Kemper of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and the stunt team on Marvel’s Daredevil combined with returning favorites House of Cards and Orange Is The New Black to give Netflix eight nominations, more than any other network.
“Trumbo” star Bryan Cranston earned a best actor nod for his role as Dalton Trumbo, while Helen Mirren got a best supporting actress nomination for playing gossip columnist Hedda Hopper.
“Beasts” actor Idris Elba landed a best supporting actor nod, but no women of color made it into either the best actress or supporting actress categories in film.
The winners will be announced in Los Angeles on January 30.
Nominees for best comedic ensemble are “Big Bang Theory“, “Key and Peele“, “Modern Family“, “Orange Is the New Black“, “Transparent” and “Veep”.

Big winners in film included Trumbo, which leads the pack with three total nominations, while Carol, The Danish Girl, The Big Short, Steve Jobs, Room, Spotlight and Beasts of No Nation garnered two apiece.
