Noting that the Criminal Court has taken cognizance of the offence, which has also been upheld by the High Court, the Minister said, “No one is above the law”.

Naidu accused the Congress of practicing “mobocracy” by bringing their legal battle to Parliament.

Whether or not there is merit in the case filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swami charging the Congress leaders with fraud and misappropriation of the assets of the National Herald newspaper is for the courts to decide.

“Congress is resorting to mobocracy, not democracy. There can’t be bigger example I can give to the nation”, she said citing her own example. “We all know what happened during the Emergency… lakhs went to prison, everyone knows the state of the judiciary then, ” he said.

Congress says the timing of the court’s action has been influenced by politics, but Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) denies this. They appealed to the Delhi High Court, which this week quashed their plea seeking exemption from a personal appearance.
