The Congress put up a show of strength all through Saturday with hundreds of leaders and workers crowding the party office since morning. They also have deep roots in the society so bail can be granted to the accused, ” the judge said.

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) held peaceful protests in across Jammu and Kashmir against the political vendetta of BJP against Congress Party leadership. The BJP hit back, terming the Congress as closely linked with “corruption”.

However, Kapil Sibal, who appeared on behalf of the Congress leaders, told reporters that the court rejected Swamy’s plea to impose restrictions on the travel overseas of Congress leaders.

Happy over the court granting bail to the party supremo and the party vice-president, Mr Prakasam, himself a lawyer, contended that BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, the complainant in the case, had “no locus standi” in the case relating to alleged cheating and misappropriation of funds in taking control of the now-defunct National Herald newspaper. Vora, Dubey, Fernandes and Sam Pitroda were also named as accused in the case. He posted the case for further hearing at 2 pm on February 20, next year. The Gandhis belong to the Gandhi-Nehru clan that has given India three prime ministers and is considered India’s top political dynasty.

Swamy, the lone petitioner, later described the scene inside.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh stood surety for Sonia, while Priyanka Vadra gave surety for her brother Rahul.

The Gandhis deny any wrongdoing and on Saturday said they would not be deterred by attempts to frame them.

“Today, I appeared with a clear coronary heart in the courtroom like another regulation-abiding individual”. “The laws of the land apply to everyone without fear or favour”.

“The Central government is misusing government agencies to target the opponents”. We will go to jail with them. Maybe, this big fight will continue till 2019 atleast. We will continue to expose the misdeeds of the Modi Government. “By Congress-free India, we mean corruption-free India”.

“We do not want to comment on what happened inside the court but we will like to speak on comments made and drama done outside”.

Earlier, Azad accused Modi of backing Swamy in his complaint, while party colleague Randeep Singh Surjewala termed Swamy “a stooge” of Modi.
