Spain takes Miss World crown
Taking the crown! Spain’s Mireia Lalaguna Royo was named Miss World 2015 on Saturday, December 19, in the southern Chinese island resort of Sanya. The first Miss World contest was held 64 years ago in Britain. Her well-publicised tuk-tuk costume failed to win any votes for best national dress. Sofia Nikitchuk, 22, of Russian Federation was the first runner-up.

Royo takes over the crown from the 2014 victor Rolene Strauss of South Africa.
Miss Spain was crowned Miss World 2015 on Saturday.
Why should Rozo be the next Miss World?
The competition was also marred by a controversy wherein a participant from Canada – Anastasia Lin was denied entry into China owing to her views on human rights violations in China.
Lin claimed the decision to refuse her a visa was due to her stance on the country’s religious policy, including its persecution of Falun Gong, of which she is a follower.
Runner-up Miss Russia’s said in her speech: “I think that the main idea of the pagent is Beauty With A objective”.
The country last participated at the global competition in 2012 when Susan Mtegha, the then Miss Malawi, made headlines for pushing Miss New Zealand at the event. China has hosted the competition seven times, starting in 2003, part of its attempts to project a more modern, outgoing image.
