Didier Drogba is in talks to make a sensational return to Chelsea, according to France Football. He said at the end of the campaign he expects to return.

Guus Hiddink is set to take charge now after the Premier League champions got rid of Jose Mourinho earlier this week and the London club want Drogba to be a part of his staff.

But at the same time, the Ivory Coast icon doused speculation that he might follow in the footsteps of such former MLS players as David Beckham or Thierry Henry, who inked short-term loan deals to play in Europe in the North American league’s off-season.

With doubts over Diego Costa’s long-term future at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea are also reportedly considering moves for two striker.

A bona fide Chelsea legend, Drogba was known to be a bonding influence in the dressing room, and his ability to unite players is likely to have appealed to Abramovich given the club’s disjointed start to the season.

In MLS, Drogba scored 12 goals in 14 regular season and playoff games, helping the Impact finish third in the Eastern Conference and reach the conference semifinals. Losing him would seriously disrupt the club’s plans for 2016.

“I belong to the Montreal Impact”, he said.
