As many as 16 Malaysians are believed to have been killed in a bus accident in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

At least 13 people – mostly Malaysian nationals – were killed Sunday after a tour bus crashed into a ravine in Thailand’s northern Chiang Mai province.
Officials have said the coach, carrying Malaysian tourists, hit a auto and ran off a curve in the road.
The Chinese Consulate General in Chiang Mai is now trying to confirm the casualties.
Police were investigating the cause of the accident. The bus driver and his helper are among the injured persons, police said.
Multiple images posted online by local news outlets showed a horrific scene as rescuers battled to reach those trapped inside the smashed bus, which had come to rest in thick foliage with its roof caved in.
In 2015, the World Health Organisation labelled Thailand roads, the second most unsafe roads in the world.
Fatal road accidents have been common occurrence in Thailand.

The Thai driver of the bus had reportedly hit another vehicle in Mae Khajan area of Chiang Rai and tried to escape.
