According to Disney The Force Awakens will earn more than $200 million in ticket sales this weekend. The record was set by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in 2011.
The early figures suggest “The Force Awakens” is on course to exceed the record domestic opening of “Jurassic World”, which debuted with $208.8 million in June. No film had over $1 million in advance IMAX sales, but “The Force Awakens” had $6.5 million – one month later, advances sales totaled $50 million – another record.
Star Wars The Force Awakens box office collections: The movie already smashed several film industry records and won praise from critics and moviegoers. Early estimates show that the film is on track to make $100 million on Friday, which make it the first three-digit-millions single day in history.
In such rarified territory, Disney has been cautious about overestimating the box-office force of J.J. Abrams’ seventh chapter in George Lucas’ space saga. China is the world’s second-largest film market.
However, after discussing the offer with his wife, Katie McGrath, he agreed to helm what is set to be the UK’s highest-grossing film, and may even eclipse Avatar’s global box office record.
U.S. composer and conductor John Williams – who created the Star Wars franchise’s renowned theme music – is the man behind the soundtrack to The Force Awakens.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens returns to “a galaxy far, far away” 30 years after the action in the Return of the Jedi from 1983.
