Tina Fey and Amy Poehler

In a skit roughly based on Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”, Fey and Poehler -whose new movie “Sisters” comes out this month – jumped into their familiar characters of Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton in a Christmas Past and Present sketch. Poehler appeared in a cloud of smoke as 2008 Hillary and soon learned of the future she had just appeared in.

The amount of interest that female comedic actresses are receiving at the moment is one of the most talked about topics in the industry, and Tina has her own thoughts on what has prompted the change of heart. Just like Maura and Katie, it takes until the party is in full swing for the audience to really get into the film. “I bought them. I roll Boston deep”, says Poehler. “We have worked together long enough that we-well, I feel like I own half of what Tina has”, Poehler joked, adding, “I don’t know if she does”. In the video, Fey and Poehler sing an ode to their squad, which consists of childcare workers, gynecologists and a confused Amy Schumer. Watching Tina and Amy on set – they’re so in control and so down for whatever. They’re grown-ups. They put the work first. Unfortunately, just as they come back to the family home, they discover that it’s being sold out from under them by their parents who are ready to move on with a new chapter in their lives. After reminiscing about a party they threw on “Ellis Island”, they decide to recreate it and leave their childhood home with a bang. Rummaging through old yearbooks and diaries, Katie realizes she did so many risky things in high school while Maura (Poehler) had fun playing it safe.

In a year where Fey already was part of a comedy classic with “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” and Poehler wrapped up the fantastic “Parks and Recreation”, “Sisters” doesn’t stand as high in either of their canons. “It’s a marketing question”.

As one moviegoer observed, Sisters is this year’s Animal House, and while I might not quite agree with that assessment, it is a descriptive way to help people understand the type of movie they are going to see.
