Rubio’s campaign has zeroed in on an amendment proposed by Cruz that would have stripped a path to citizenship out of the legislation while leaving in place a path to legal status.

“I think that he should just admit that he’s changed his mind – that he used to be for legalization, but he’s not anymore”, the libertarian-leaning senator said.

He also said Cruz had changed his position on trade promotion authority – a measure that gives President Barack Obama the power to negotiate trade deals and send them to Congress for votes without amendments – and on the Patriot Act.

Paul isn’t the only GOP presidential contender to begin hitting Cruz on where he stands on certain policy positions. Cruz says now the amendment was meant as a “poison pill” to kill the whole package, or at the very least as a way to expose that what Democrats really wanted was not to “bring people out of the shadows”, as they often claimed, but rather to grant citizenship to millions of future Democratic voters.

As CNN reported, Paul didn’t miss a chance to slam Rubio during his appearance on “State of the Union” as well.

“I’m just flabbergasted, really”, Sessions said during the rally.
