Kubiak pleased with Broncos QB Manning’s progress

Manning sustained the injury in their November 8 loss to the Indianapolis Colts but according to his father, Archie Manning, the foot is troubling his son for months now.

Brock Osweiler has fared well in Manning’s absence, going 3-1, but it’s no secret that the Broncos are winning due to their top-ranked defense, which has allowed the fewest points in the National Football League this season. The Denver Broncos, likely, want Peyton Manning to return to action before the playoffs, so he can get back into the speed of things before the “real” games start.

“He came in this morning and was a little sore, so we just said, ‘OK, we’ll stop for the weekend and we’ll go from there, ‘ so we’ll pick back up on Monday”, Head Coach Gary Kubiak said. Manning has been dealing with a foot injury since the summer and will travel with the team for a Week 15 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but isn’t yet ready to return.

Osweiler will start his fourth game in a row on Sunday at Pittsburgh in place of Manning, who was 7-2 as a starter. With Osweiler, the Broncos have worked back under center and been more consistent.

“You can’t let him stay in the pocket, he can make any throw there is making sure we bring a lot of pressure and bringing him to the ground and getting some good hits on him are crucial”, Ray said. While some sources close to Manning have said he wants to play at least one more season, others have said that he would retire and move immediately into a front office job, with a handful of teams including the Cleveland Browns interested in making him a general manager. “It just happened this morning, a decision we made with what we’re doing [on Friday]”.

John Elway immediately denied any insinuation that Manning has said he wouldn’t be a backup.
