Guardiola’s side are still in the hunt for a repeat of their 2013 treble of Champions League, Bundesliga and German Cup, and will face last season’s finalists Juventus in the last 16 of Europe’s premier club competition.

Having guided Bayern to the semi-finals in his two seasons at the helm, Guardiola has won 62.5 per cent of his Champions League matches as a coach.

The 56-year-old Ancelotti will bring a wealth of experience to Bayern having won the Champions League twice with AC Milan in 2003 and 2007, then with Real Madrid in 2014.

Rummenigge admitted he was not surprised by Guardiola’s decision to leave his role as Bayern Munich coach after three seasons, suggesting the indications of his departure have been evident for some time. Chelsea? Or will he take a year out and replace Arsene Wenger at Arsenal?

Guardiola will return to Munich in the first few days of January to enter into the final six months of his contract with Bayern.

The Bundesliga outfit were quick to announce their replacement for the outward-bound Pep Guardiola, who confirmed he would be leaving the Allianz Arena when his deal runs out in the summer.

“Carlo is a calm, balanced expert, who knows how to deal with stars and favors a multifaceted style of play – we were looking for this, and we have found it”, the Bayern chief stated.

Bayern Munich’s coach Pep Guardiola has revealed that he has made a decision on his future but he refused to reveal whether he will be in Bayern Munich next summer.

“In big clubs you always have huge pressure”.

“He told me that he was looking for a new challenge and nearly apologised”.

Rummenigge said he had complete confidence in the new coach. Ancelotti, who described the chance to coach the German champions as an “honour”, could be presented on Monday. I see the both of them on [as being on the same] level. Only Borussia Dortmund had scored more goals after 17 league games. Phillip Lahm, a defender, surprised many with his fine performances in midfield.

There have also been disagreements with the Bayern medical staff, which led to a parting of the ways with the highly regarded team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt last season and three other members of staff.

Braun reportedly denied responsibility for Ribery’s injury and instead blamed Guardiola for rushing players back.
