Steve Harvey is sorry, the Internet isn’t

Miss Universe Host Steve Harvey explained that he made a mistake and didn’t read his entire card when he announced the wrong pageant victor.

You would think the situation couldn’t get any more cringeworthy, but it wasn’t until after Miss Colombia was handed her ridiculously oversize bouquet of flowers, sash, and glittery crown that Harvey realized his mistake and came back on stage to re-announce the victor.

“I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake”, he wrote.

“I have to apologize”, Harvey said. It said the second runner-up was Miss USA, the first runner-up was Miss Colombia, and the victor was Miss Philippines, although the countries were all written in small print.

When the interviewer asked why she and other contestants surrounded Gutierrez instead of congratulating Wurtzbach after Miss Philippines received the crown, Riek said flatly: “Because none of us voted for Philippines”. Fox affiliate KTXL posted the story of Steve Harvey’s epic screw up-naming the wrong woman the victor, which forced that woman to endure having the crown removed from her head and handed to someone else-to its Facebook page.

Apart from the judging panel that included actress Niecy Nash, celebrity entertainment mogul Perez Hilton, former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo and football legend Emmitt Smith, this year fans across the globe had a say in who should be crowned the Miss Universe. But the harsh reality is that one woman’s dreams were fulfilled and then totally crushed all within a few minutes.

When the show wrapped up, ET reports that the crowd became upset, booed and refused to leave despite orders made over the loudspeakers. “Miss Universe 2015 is Philippines!” “And they [said], ‘No, no, you’re really the victor'”. Trump purchased NBC’s share in September then turned around just days later and sold it to IMG, a New York-based sports, events and talent management company. “This was a terribly honest human mistake and I am so regretful”. He said, “Things happen”.

“So you cut over to news even before the real victor was crowned? stupid coverage”, said another.
