Here, Drew McWeeny and Roth Cornet dive into a full spoiler review of the film.
Deadline reports today that the movie raked in $238 million in first-weekend United States ticket sales, though the site’s sources are saying “it’s much higher than that”.
Analyst Alexia Quadrani thinks Disney may be able to recoup the roughly US$4 billion it paid for Star Wars creator Lucasfilm by 2018.
The dinosaur blockbuster took in $525 million when it launched, making it the biggest Box Office opening ever. The film beat out the 2011 film “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” in holding the record for Thursday night preview sales with $57 million.
The figure shatters the previous record, which was set by Jurassic World earlier this year when it premiered to US$208.8 million (NZ$310.4m).
Expected to blast through records all weekend, the Friday numbers are in for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.
Despite vehemently denying past rumors, Craig did appear in The Force Awakens as a Storm Trooper, specifically the Storm Trooper Rey Jedi mind-tricks into releasing her from Kylo Ren’s torture chair.
Force Awakens, unlike Jurassic World, didn’t have the advantage of opening day and date in China, where it doesn’t open until January 9.
While Yoda voice actor and puppeteer Frank Oz also traveled to Bad Robot to record new lines for The Force Awakens, Abrams said the studio ended up using pre-existing content instead.
In addition, The Force Awakens also landed the biggest weekend opening in Australia, Russia, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Austria, Poland (3-day), Denmark (5-day), Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Croatia, Ukraine, Iceland, Serbia, New Zealand.
