Ten minutes into the third quarter Sunday afternoon, Cam Newton threw his fifth touchdown pass of the day to put the Carolina Panthers up 35-7 on the New York Giants, just another stunning chapter in the Carolina Panther quarterback’s season for the ages.
Osweiler completed 14 of 18 passes for 214 yards and three scores and also ran for a touchdown while staking the Broncos to a 27-10 lead.
With the win, the Chiefs became the first National Football League team to follow a five-game slide with eight successive wins in the same season.
The Panthers will be looking to maintain their ideal record and gain an fantastic 14th victory of the season so far.
And while this doesn’t exactly make them unique, they couldn’t stop Newton, who threw for five touchdowns and ran for 100 yards, including a 47-yard scamper that was the longest run by a quarterback against the Giants since the 1970 merger.
NY tied the score after trailing by 28 points in the third quarter, but the Panthers got to 14-0 on Graham Gano’s 43-yard field goal as time expired. He was ideal, as are the Carolina Panthers, with two more regular NFL Sundays to play. With 10:03 left in the third quarter the Panthers took a commanding 28-7 lead. Yesterday was the first time the Texans have ever won at Indianapolis. 500 and moved a half-game ahead of the Eagles in the NFC East.
The Falcons (7-7) had lost six straight and even had some wondering whether they had given up after losing 38-0 last week at Carolina.
Carolina visits Atlanta and hosts Tampa Bay to finish the schedule. Their high-priced future Hall of Fame quarterback, Peyton Manning, was 7-2 as a starter even though, after missing four games, he continues to lead the league in interceptions by a wide margin.
“We’ve got to find ways of getting better”.
The major incident came during the second half when Beckham launched himself at Panthers cornerback Josh Norman, spearing into the Carolina defensive player’s head in an ugly helmet-to-helmet clash. The most hefty of which will likely land at the doorstep of Beckham Jr., who unloaded an illegal helmet-to-helmet hit on Norman which appeared intentional.
Baldwin caught 3-yard TD in the first quarter and had a 6-yard TD reception in the second quarter. It was 49 yards, by Cam Newton two weeks ago against the Saints. “And it goes to show you who and what he is”. Seemingly from the opening snaps, Beckham battled with Norman and other Panthers’ players after the whistle was blown.
Norman did not hold back when asked about Beckham following the victory, per Steve Overmyer of CBS 2 in NY: “F-k him”.
In fact, Beckham picked up four penalties throughout the game, which Adam Schefter of ESPN said was tied for the most by a wide receiver in one contest in the last 15 years.
Norman didn’t think the cleats were a coincidence, telling reporters: “That kind of gets me going a little bit because I know what they symbolise”.
“You got two bulls going at it in a physical sport, a field full of alpha males, they’re not going to be playing patty-cake, patty-cake”, Newton added.
“He did lose his composure”, Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said. “I hope the league office takes a better look at it. Players like that don’t need to be in the game”.
Beckham was unapologetic afterward, and explained away his behavior thusly: “The second man always gets caught”.
