Hiddink targets Drogba for Chelsea coaching role

Before the unprecedented but anticipated sack of Jose Mourinho, he claimed the players didn’t give their all and accused them of betraying him.

“Absolutely and rightly so as well”, captain John Terry said when asked about the discontent. If we keep on putting in performances like that then the fans will be going home happy with smiles on their faces.

“The owner and the Board welcome back a coach with a wealth of top-level experience and success, including his previous spell with the club in 2009 when we lifted the FA Cup”, Chelsea said in a statement.

Hiddink spoke to the players in the dressing room after the match and is confident he can arrest the club’s alarming slide, which saw last season’s champions lose nine of their first 16 matches.

Branislav Ivanovic, Pedro and Oscar struck for Chelsea’s comfortable victory over Sunderland, but the win could not mask the sizeable task ahead of Hiddink.

“You let Jose down”, another banner read.

“A lot of us have spoken publicly to say we haven’t been performing well enough, but this is a step in the right direction to where we want to be, which is climbing the league table”, he said.

Sunderland, though, meekly provided Chelsea with the platform to demonstrate the talents undoubtedly still in the squad.

The Spain worldwide has scored two goals and has made two assists in 13 Premier League appearances for the west London club since his £22m summer move.

“Where were you when you were (expletive)?”

Clearly the fans are unhappy about Mourinho’s sacking and were seen protesting and booing their own players yesterday.

New Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink is walking straight into a fresh crisis at the club, with the futures of Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas hanging in the balance.

“All of us are in this position, it is not one or two individuals, we are in this position because one or two have performed and the rest haven’t unfortunately – but that is behind us now”.

Just last month, Drogba admitted that he has an agreement to return to Chelsea once he finishes his playing career.

He has been out of work since being fired by the Netherlands in June during the latter stages of his country’s unsuccessful attempt to qualify for Euro 2016.
