Giants receiver Beckham given one-game ban
Many drew a connection to the new movie Concussion, to be released on Christmas, that is critical of the league’s slow reaction to mounting evidence that head trauma in football games could lead to the deterioration of brain functions and suggested the NFL has no choice but to suspend Beckham.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Beckham felt threatened by the Panthers carrying a baseball bat during pregame warmups and waiving it toward Beckham in a menacing fashion.
On top of a bevy of fouls and drops, Beckham crossed the line when he appeared to initiate a head-to-head hit with Panthers cornerback Josh Norman.
Even so, Beckham now is a full card-carrying member of the Wideout Diva Club after his antics Sunday when he turned the game into a fistfight – more punches thrown than in a heavyweight fight – and included his ludicrous, intentional and unsafe launching into Norman on a blatant helmet-to-helmet hit. Norman was infuriated by the helmet-to-helmet hit and called for the league to look at Beckham’s play. His actions were inexcusable, including a head shot on Panthers cornerback Josh Norman that played a big role in his one-game suspension.
“At numerous times during yesterday’s game against the Carolina Panthers, [Odell Beckham, Jr.’s] actions placed a fellow player at unnecessary risk”, said NFL Vice President of Football Operations Merton Hanks of the second-year receiver’s play, which numerous members of the media have described as reckless. “But I will defend the young man, the quality of the person as long as I’m able”. However, Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports reported the appeal might not be heard until Wednesday and that there is “no word” on which arbitrator will hear it.
Beckham would miss this Sunday night’s game at Minnesota. It’s great for us to be in a game like this – it’s kind of like our first dose of mini-games of what playoff football is going to be about.
“I hope the league offices get a chance to review the film and see what they can do, because players like that don’t deserve to be in the game”. The other thing is, when Odell got to the sideline and spent time with his coaches, he was in the mode of learning information, gathering information, looking at pictures, and he was not out of control, he was not emotional. But Beckham’s teammates were strong in their support, and noted Norman wasn’t exactly an innocent bystander.
Beckham has appealed the suspension and a final ruling is expected to be handed down before Thursday. On some plays during the game, Beckham and Norman simply started wrestling as soon as the ball was snapped.
“So I think we’re going to support him and …”
While the Panthers’ players were livid over Beckham’s actions, Beckham downplayed them in the postgame locker-room.
