A retired police officer who was suspected of having placed a fake bomb in the toilets of an aircraft of Air France, has been liberated yesterday afternoon, December 21.
This Air France flight had been forced to make an emergency landing in Mombasa on Sunday after the fake explosive was discovered rigged into cardboard with a household timer and some paper.
Gagey congratulated the crew for their cool-headed reaction to divert the plane.
The incident is being investigated and on Monday, two passengers who were on the aircraft were detained.
France has been in a state of emergency since terrorists killed 130 people on 13 November in Paris. “One of my grandchildren said: ‘The slide was super!”‘
Six passengers were being questioned, including the person who informed the crew about the device, said a Kenyan police official who is part of the investigation and who insisted on anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the press.
The flight is the fourth Air France flight to Paris that has been diverted since the attacks on the city last month.
The Boeing 777 Air France flight 463 carrying 459 passengers and 14 crew made an emergency landing on Sunday after reports of a suspected bomb in the restroom.
Several passengers were questioned in Mombasa before a plane was sent to return all those on board to France.
Airlines are especially anxious after jihadis from Islamic State, which claimed the Paris attacks, also said they were responsible for downing a Russian jet in Egypt in October after smuggling a bomb on to the plane, killing all 224 people on board.

“We interrogated the few individuals we had isolated and handed them to France, we took their finger prints and all other information and we have left it to the French government”, he said.
