Blatter, Platini banned for eight years
Suspended FIFA President Sepp Blatter gestures during a news conference in Zurich, Switzerland, Monday, Dec. 21, 2015 after he has been banned for 8 years from all football related activities.

And calls of ‘who wore it better?’ “I regret, but I am not ashamed”. Blatter and Platini say the payment was completely unconnected with the presidential elections.
“If we had awarded the World Cup in 2022 to the United States of America, we would not be here”, a defiant Blatter said in Italian at a Zurich news conference following the ethics committee’s decision, referring to the controversial decision to grant the tournament’s hosting rights to Qatar. “The spokesperson of the Ethics Commission (Andreas Bantel) had already announced that Michel would be suspended for several years”.
“We’ll look at all the candidates in January and make our minds up quite late I would think”.
In essence, they were found guilty of breaches surrounding a £1.3m ($2m) “disloyal payment” made to Platini in 2011.
A statement from the ethics committee said: “Mr Blatter’s actions did not show commitment to an ethical attitude, failing to respect all applicable laws and regulations as well as FIFA’s regulatory framework to the extent applicable to him and demonstrating an abusive execution of his position as president of Federation Internationale de Football Association, hence violating article 13 of the FCE (general rules of conduct)”. I am sorry that I am a punching ball. I am also sorry about me and about how I am treated in this world of humanitarian qualities. I am sorry for football.
He said its proceedings, which included a hearing earlier this month that he did not attend, had been “orchestrated…by governing bodies that I know well” to tarnish him.
“Inside FIFA, people couldn’t understand why the president is suspended”. Naturally, UEFA is extremely disappointed with this decision, which nevertheless is subject to appeal.
“It seems unbelievable, but it doesn’t surprise me”.
“We will go once again to the Appeal Committee”, he said.

“I am convinced that my fate was sealed before the hearing of December 18 and that this verdict is just a pathetic cover-up for a desire to eliminate me from the world of football”.
