Abarth Might Be Turning the Fiat 500X Into an Unmuffled Rally Crossover
While those models feature 177kW of power, a more sedate 150kW is expected – that engine is also likely to be deployed in a future Abarth version of the Fiat 124 Spider.

Nothing is official at this stage, but Abarth boss Paolo Gagliardo has spoken candidly about his desire to expand the Abarth range beyond its current 500-based models.
Is the bump of 32hp going to spur sales of the Fiat 500X, considering the Abarth badge that it is going to wear?
Already confirmed is an Abarth version of the recently revealed Fiat 124 Spider and the brand’s desire to return to rallying but, according to the newswire, a “performance-inspired 500X” would be another option. Both new Abarth models are likely to share a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine with around 170 horsepower on tap.
When it was launched, Fiat hoped that the Fiat 500X crossover would boost sales in a market that is being dominated by SUVs and CUVs. Of course, Abarth will tune the engine to offer more power than the initial figure of 138hp.
The new sporty SUV is being created to rival both the Nissan Juke Nismo RS and the Mini Countryman JCW says newswire, Automotive News, who broke the Abarth-branded SUVs cover.

Drive will be channelled through the standard all wheel drive system used by the 500X Lounge and Cross X versions, but instead of the nine-speed hydraulic automatic used in those models a variant of the 500X FWD’s six-speed dual-clutch auto may feature.
