Farook “introduced Marquez to radical Islamic ideology”, according to the affidavit.
Officials said Marquez checked into the psychiatric ward at UCLA Harbor Medical Center in the Los Angeles County city of Torrance, spending four days before released to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The affidavit said Marquez told investigators he and Farook learned to make improvised explosive devices from Inspire Magazine, the official publication of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).
Farook also expressed exasperation with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and disdain for Muslims who serve in the U.S. military and kill other Muslims, the documents show.

The plot against the Riverside, California community college was supposed to begin with the two men throwing pipe bombs into the cafeteria from a balcony on the second floor.
Suspects often start off talking with law enforcement officers but eventually clam up.
But in a matter of years, they were plotting against their own Southern California community, envisioning themselves slaughtering college students and freeway motorists with pipe bombs and bullets.
A day after the San Bernardino attack, Marquez called 911 and told the operator he was thinking of killing himself. Marquez allegedly said that he would watch for law enforcement and emergency vehicles, and his priority was to shoot law enforcement before shooting life-saving emergency personnel.
Marquez is charged under an older version of the offense not used as often that must connect the material support with a specific violent act – whether it was carried out or not. The call indicates the apparently distraught Marquez was also considering suicide. Prosecutors said there is no evidence Marquez participated in the San Bernardino massacre or had advance knowledge of it.
“There really isn’t much that you can do.” said Tolbert whose fiance was working a short distance from Inland Regional Center when the attack took place.
“Mr Marquez conspired with Mr Farook to commit vicious attacks, as set forth in today’s charges”, said USA attorney Eileen M Decker in a statement following the appearance at Riverside federal court on Thursday.
