The career of the greatest defensive back to ever play the game will be coming to an end after the final two games of the 2015 season as Oakland Raiders safety Charles Woodson announced on Monday evening that this will be his last season in the league. With the Oakland Raiders eliminated from postseason contention, he has just two regular-season games remaining: a home finale against the San Diego Chargers on Thursday and a Week 17 game at the Kansas City Chiefs. MI won a split of the national title that year.
For the former Heisman Trophy victor and No. 4 overall pick out of MI, the announcement wraps up a career notable for its sustained excellence, and one sure to be recognized by the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

He is already an 8-time Pro Bowler and 3-time first team All Pro. He left for Green Bay in 2006 where he spent 7 seasons, winning a Super Bowl in 2010 and Defensive Player of the Year in 2011. With 65 interceptions for his career, he’s tied for fifth most all time. He has had an excellent year for a young, improving Raiders team. Despite shoulder issues, he has five interceptions this season. But playing until he was 40 wasn’t in the cards. “I’ve been emotional all day, so it will be that way Thursday for Raider Nation”, Woodson said, according to NBCSports.com. “It’s not gonna happen”, Woodson said. After sitting out 10 games in 2005 due to a broken leg, Woodson rejuvenated his career with a move to Green Bay. He’s a virtual lock as a first-ballot choice.
