‘The Force Awakens’ smashes box office records

The first “Star Wars” film in a decade took in a total of $529 million at box offices around the world, second only to the dinosaur film “Jurassic World”, which had the benefit of an opening weekend that included China, where “Force Awakens” won’t open for weeks.

Notably, Ford is getting paid 56 times the $450,000 flat fee received by British newcomers John Boyega and Daisy Ridley—who each play new leading characters in the film. Star Wars has smashed that to bits, with Variety now reporting a take of $247 million (revised from $238 million) in just one weekend.

Meanwhile “Creed”, a next-generation version of the “Rocky” series earned $5 million in its fourth week on the big screen.
