Michigan State’s Valentine out 2-3 weeks with injury
Denzel Valentine, Michigan State’s top all-around player, and quite possibly the nation’s top all-around player, will be out for 2-3 weeks due to a knee injury, reports Joe Rexrode of the Detroit Free Press.

The national player of the year candidate will miss the next 2-3 weeks after sustaining a knee injury while attempting a layup during Sunday’s practice.
As a battle against a talented Oakland University looms on Tuesday for No. 1-ranked MSU, the team got dealt some devastating news Sunday night. A win would give this team the record for the best start in school history. Valentine’s brother Drew is an assistant coach with the Golden Grizzlies. He has two triple-doubles this season. He calls it “very, very, very minor”.
Others must fill the void, including sharpshooting freshman Matt McQuaid and senior leader Bryn Forbes.
West Virginia transfer Eron Harris will likely move into Valentine’s spot in the starting lineup, but as much burden will fall on point guard LouRawls Nairn as any of the Spartans. “I think Tum (Nairn) is ready to do that”, Izzo said.
“He was crushed last night when we found out, late last night, but at the same time, we’re just going to have to learn”.

It would appear the Big Ten showdown against preseason favorite Maryland on January 23 at MSU’s Breslin Center would be outside the recovery window and that Valentine will be ready to return.
