NFL suspends Giants WR Odell Beckham for 1 game
Giants star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was not ejected for the way he attacked Carolina Panthers star cornerback Josh Norman – launching himself head-first for a violent helmet-to-helmet smash, for example, or delivering an open-handed smack to the facemask.

The game also provided a head-to-head of one of the top wide receivers in the league, Odell Beckham Jr., versus one of top cornerbacks, Josh Norman.
Giants coach Tom Coughlin admitted that Beckham lost his composure and he considered taking him out in the third quarter to avoid any harm when the Giants were trailing by as much as 35-7. Beckham racked up three personal foul penalties in the Giants loss to the Panthers. It continued into the second quarter when Beckham hit Norman in the head after a rushing play.
Alex Smith went 21 of 25 on completed passes for 171 yards and a touchdown, and the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Baltimore Ravens 34-14 and extended its winning streak to eight games in National Football League action on Sunday.
The New York Giants wide receiver caught six balls for 76 yards and had a touchdown in the contest, but, of course, his penalties take away from that performance.
“That doesn’t excuse Odell’s actions”, a team source said.
According to Schefter’s report, Beckham “felt threatened” and it shaped his mindset for the game.
The worst was Beckham charging from his own sideline to hit Norman with a diving, head-to-head block attempt. I have learned it all throughout my life you know, always second man gets called, always that it is just unfortunate.
“The guy ran 15 yards down the field – a dead on collision”, Norman said.
At his press conference this afternoon (note that this was before Batghazi broke, and before the National Football League announced a one-game suspension for Beckham), the Giants coach gave a couple different answers to explain why Beckham remained in the game.

“Because I didn’t take him out”, he answered. “In fact, it was a strong consideration”, said Coughlan, who in the end decided he needed Beckham on the field as the Giants strained to keep pace in the NFC East race. And just in case you thought it was over, Norman tweeted a string of emojis this morning to really drive it home. “If you want to play, let’s play it straight up, let’s do it the right way”, he said.
