It was a rebuke to Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor, who jabbed Trump the most during the two-hour debate.
The comments being considered stem from one of the more heated exchanges during the debate between Senator Cruz and his rival for the Republican presidential nomination, Senator Marco Rubio, over the contentious National Security Agency program of bulk data monitoring and retention.
During Tuesday night’s debate, they clashed on immigration reform.
The reality television star and real estate developer defended the proposal as common sense, insisting “we are not talking about religion, we are talking about security”.
“Well, that’s really tragic that you hear these comments which are full of hatred, full of this ideology of being discriminative towards others”, Malala told AFP. “He was the only candidate willing to tussle with the front runner and got the better of several early exchanges”, said University of MI director of debate Aaron Kall, who expects Mr Trump to maintain his lead.
U.S. Republican presidential candidate Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) In West Des Moines, Iowa.
“If they’re here when I get in, they’re going back”, he said.
Trump leads with 36 percent in the poll of Florida Republican voters.
Trump then mocked Bush’s attacks on him and said that Bush “said it just the way his pollster told him to say it”.
One more Republican debate remains before the first votes for the nominee are cast in Iowa on Feb 1.
The billionaire businessman was introduced by Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who applauded Trump for bringing the issue of illegal immigration to the forefront in his campaign.
The word fear was only used once by the candidates in the entire debate, but Michael Crowley, senior foreign affairs correspondent for Politico, says fear “absolutely” seemed to hover over the whole thing.
The other candidates in Tuesday’s debate were ex-Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, Ohio Governor John Kasich, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, and Kentucky Senator Rand Paul.
“I’m reminded of what FDR’s grandfather said (referring to former USA president Franklin Delano Roosevelt), all horse thieves are Democrats but not all Democrats are horse thieves”, Cruz joked in a swipe at Democrats while making the point that not all Muslims are terrorists or extremists.
The top trending questions for the other Republican candidates are personal as well as political.
