Renowned artist Chintan Upadhyay was arrested by the Mumbai police in the wee hours of Tuesday in connection with the murders of his estranged wife Hema and her lawyer Harish Bhambhani, police said.

Less than a fortnight before artist Hema and Harish were murdered, her estranged husband Chintan Upadhyay allegedly met Vidyadhar in Jaipur at the house of Chintan’s parents, reports The Indian Express.
The police were earlier probing his connection with the main accused in the case, Vidyadhar Rajbhar, who runs the art godown where Hema and Harish were killed. After investigation, police managed to identify them as Bhambani, 65, who lived in Sion, and Baroda-born artist Hema Upadhyay, 43, a resident of Santacruz. It was learnt that Vidya used to work under Chintan.
Interestingly, Chintan has been questioned exhaustively by the Mumbai Police Crime Branch for one full week.
Chintan will be produced in the Metropolitan Magistrate’s court in Borivali later in the day, where the police will seek his custody for further interrogation.
The barely-clothed bodies of Upadhyay and Bhambhani were packed in cardboard boxes, wrapped in plastic sheets and thrown into a large open drain near Dahanukarwadi area in Kandivali West, a suburb in northwest Mumbai, a few days ago.

The family alleged that a property dispute led to the murder of Hema as Chintan was not ready to give her share of the property.
