India takes up students’ deportation issue with US

Air India has referred to the External Affairs Ministry the communication from American authorities about two universities there being under “scrutiny” that prompted it to bar 19 students from boarding its flight to San Fransisco so they were not “inconvenienced”.

“We were treated like criminals and sent back”, one student, who did not give a name, told the Times of India. Last week, there were reports of 14 Indian students heading to the same universities being deported from the USA after being detained and questioned by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for around 15 hours in San Franscisco.
