LOS ANGELES Bill Cosby sued supermodel Beverly Johnson for defamation on Monday, calling her a liar over her claims that the comedian drugged and attempted to sexually assault her in the 1980s.

The lawsuit accuses Johnson of using the media’s attention to her allegations to promote the sale of her memoir, which includes a chapter in which she accuses Cosby of drugging her. “She has repeated [the allegations] to every media publication, newspaper, magazine, or TV show that will hear her”, the statement said, which claims that Johnson is “no stranger to making salacious public allegations”.

Cosby is seeking compensatory and punitive damages, a retraction of her statements, and the removal of the chapter from her memoir in which the incident is mentioned. Cosby’s attorneys responded to the request, saying Camille has no “first-hand knowledge” of what her husband was doing all of those years ago and their chats are privileged conversations per Massachusetts’ “spousal disqualification rule”.

This latest lawsuit comes against Johnson, who, like many of Cosby’s alleged victims, has spoken out with claims of having been taken advantage of by the famous comedian. Cosby has denied wrongdoing, and most of the accusations are too old to pursue in criminal court. Last week he filed a suit against seven other women. Many women who accuse Bill Cosby of drugging them and/or rape, were aspiring actresses, and a good number of these women say their experiences happened with Cosby while auditioning privately for The Cosby Show.
Johnson and Cosby never spent any time alone together in the comedian’s home, and a dinner described by Johnson was also attended by Cosby’s wife, according to the lawsuit.

Hill appeared in the “Picture Pages” educational videos with Cosby in the 1980s when she was a teenager.
