Todd Bowles’ ideal scenario for Jets
Asked specifically about the Steelers’ comeback win, Bowles offered a slight chuckle.

If the Chiefs win out – home games against the Browns and Raiders remain – and the Broncos drop one of their final two games, then they’ll take home the AFC West crown.
You can’t worry about what you can’t control.
Bowles didn’t see Sunday’s slate of games because he and his staff were busy breaking down tape of their 19-16 road win over the Cowboys on Saturday night and preparing for New England.
Looks, fortunately for Fitzpatrick and the Jets (9-5), don’t matter much.
In simplest forms, the Jets – in order to earn wild card entry – have to beat the Patriots & the Bills AND have Kansas City OR Pittsburgh lose one/tie one OR have the Broncos lose one contest. Few passers in the history of the National Football League have been more effective at extending plays that were presumed dead, and few passers in history are more capable of resurrecting games that were presumed to have flatlined.
The Chiefs win the tiebreaker against all of the above teams.
The absolute worst case scenario is that the Broncos split the next two weeks and lose at home to either the Bengals or the Chargers, while the Chiefs win out against the Browns and Ravens. I’d say the majority of my focus is on us. “We don’t control our own destiny”.
There are several other scenarios that could shape the AFC playoff picture, but one that could directly affect the Jets is what the Broncos do in the final two weeks. But if the Jets win twice and the Chiefs wind up winning the AFC West, the Jets could get in as a wild card because they own the tiebreaker over Denver. The Jets (9-5) will be eliminated from playoff contention if they lose and the Chiefs, Steelers and Broncos win. Headed into the game, the Jets, a team who should expect to make the playoffs, were expected to roll over their foes, but that did not happen.
First things first, of course. The Broncos would be favorites at home against either the Texans or Chiefs, while a Patriots team that continues to be decimated by injuries is a toss-up in their game against a very hot Steelers team.
If the Patriots can just take care of the Jets this weekend, the Broncos should be all but assured a playoff spot; that is, as long as they can win one of their final two games.
“Sometimes that’s not the case because you might be finished playing but the other team is still playing, or even if they play at one o’clock as well you wouldn’t have that game available”, Belichick said. “It’s not necessarily the Patriots, it’s just about the position we’re in as far as giving us a chance to make the postseason”, Bowles said.
Regardless of who starts under center, Denver’s offense has struggled to put points on the board on a week-to-week basis. Does Bowles think they are truly a different team now than they were the last time they faced New England?

“I play to win, ” Brady said Monday during his weekly radio appearance on WEEI. “We’ve grown some. You have to play the game on Sunday to find that out”. It includes a legitimately good division race, and the possibility of yet another mediocre division champion, along with several players ready to rewrite their legacies as they approach another playoff run. In fact, just the opposite. “It would be an important game and a big game for that reason”.
