‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Beats Estimates in First Weekend
It turns out “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” made even more money than Disney thought in its opening weekend.

The film has made $528 million around the world since opening overseas on Wednesday.
“The Force Awakens” could also eclipse the global opening weekend record of $316.1 million by “Jurassic World” – along with the dinosaur movie’s worldwide opening record of $524.9 million.
And the movie still has not been released in China, the world’s second-largest film market.
A Disney spokeswoman confirmed the new totals on Monday morning.
So what; was young Han Solo a carpenter, like Ford was when Lucas cast him in the first Star Wars movie?
The Disney film opened in 4,134 theaters.
The Star Wars franchise was acquired by Disney from its original owner Lucasfilm for $4bn (£2.69bn) in 2012, with a view to constructing a more commanding cinematic universe in the vein of Marvel’s series of prodigiously successful superhero films – which are also owned by Disney, as it happens. “Put it back on again, put it back in the wrong spot again”, he says. So that’s an incredible weekend.
Roughly 58% of the “Force Awakens” audience was male while 63% of the audience was over the age of 25, according to data shared by the studio.
But this may just be the beginning of the film’s box office empire with movie choices in January and February pretty depleted at the cineplex.
“Star Wars is about to smash the previous Harry Potter record, and will break the first week record of any film ever released in Australia”, he said.
