Texas Police Search for Affluenza Teen Ethan Couch View Count: 74
Ethan Couch, the Texas teenager who avoided jail time after killing four people in a DUI crash due to his defense team’s “affluenza” argument – that stated the rich kid’s parents were to blame for spoiling him – is wanted by the police for violating his probation.

“With the wealth and the wherewithal that his family has, it’s going to be a tough assignment for us to find him”, the sheriff told The Dallas Morning News.
The FBI and US Marshals Service have joined the search for Couch, who is now considered a fugitive.
The crash killed a 24-year-old stranded motorist, a youth pastor who stopped to help her and a mother and daughter who lived nearby.
The son of millionaire parents, Couch made headlines during his trial when a psychologist testifying on his behalf claimed he suffered from “affluenza” – a neologism coined from affluence and influenza, implying that financial privilege made him unable to understand the consequences of his actions. As a condition of his probation, Couch was instructed to not lose touch with his probation officer, and to stay from drugs or alcohol.
“My personal belief is when that video came out, he felt like he violated his probation, and I believe that was the trigger that caused him to up and run”. Prosecutors, according to the Washington Post, had pushed for a sentence as stiff as 20 years behind bars. All four people were killed and two of Couch’s friends were injured.
‘They have lots of money, which gives them access to private planes and boats’. When he didn’t show, authorities issued an order for his arrest the next day.
Mr Anderson told CNN he’s anxious Couch and his mother could have fled the United States.
Appearing on CNN, Anderson said: ‘You can run, but you’re always going to be looking over your shoulder. However, someone posted a beer pong clip on Twitter earlier this month of Couch drinking, and the county DA got wind of it. They went to talk to Couch about it, but it seems he’d disappeared.
“He ruined a lot of lives”, Anderson said. A warrant was issued for Ethan Couch, 18, after he skipped a meeting with his probation officer last Friday. The teen, who was 16 at the time, was sentenced to 10 years probation.
It is a case that has drawn national media attention, but has also drawn the ire of local residents at the Burleson Star’s Facebook, many of which again Wednesday expressed their displeasure that Couch was given such a light sentence that put him in position to flee.

Although Couch is now considered an adult, his case remains in juvenile court because his offence occurred when he was a minor.
