Steve Harvey’s Gigantic Miss Universe Mistake
“The entire country, and our family, was overcome with emotion”, Alvaro Arevalo, the Colombian runner-up’s cousin who admitted to be “a little shocked”, told Blu Radio in an interview Monday, according to Bogota’s AP. Meanwhile, Miss Colombia, 21-year-old Ariadna Gutierrez, left a message for fans in a web video, suggesting that she’s ready to move on from the embarrassing blunder.

Harvey later took to Twitter to apologize, but he made another misstep when he misspelled both Colombia and the Philippines in an initial tweet.
Stunned, she walked to the front of the stage, where the coveted crown was taken off the head of Miss Colombia and put on hers. Trump made disparaging remarks about Mexican immigrants when he announced his bid for president, causing Spanish language network Univision to pull out from broadcasting Miss Universe and NBC to cut business ties with Trump. Arevalo had already been crowned when Harvey returned to the stage to say he had misread the card, and Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines is in fact the new Miss Universe.
Harvey’s mistake is not the first time the wrong woman has been named the victor of a high-profile beauty pageant.
Miss USA Olivia Jordan recalled what was going on in her mind at the height of all the confusion.
“Everything happens for a reason, so I’m happy”, she said.
Miss Germany refuses to elaborate, but she does add that she wishes Miss Philippines the best while holding the title. He retweeted someone else’s comment that Trump must be happy that the pageant had gone “off the rails” after he sold it.
The Las Vegas Strip was soon jammed with ambulances and fire trucks, and authorities said at least 30 people were taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries, with one person dead.

“Things happen”, he said. And a transcribing error caused the wrong author’s name to be announced for a National Book Award in 2011.
