Harry Potter and the Cursed Child announces lead cast
In a separate statement, Rowling said, “I’m so excited with the choice of casting for ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.’ I can’t wait to see Jamie, Noma and Paul bring the adult Harry, Hermione and Ron to life on stage next summer”. Not surprisingly, some fans were in an uproar about the casting, but series creator J.K. Rowling recently offered up her thoughts on Granger and Dumezweni. White skin was never specified.

“Canon: brown eyes, frizzy hair and very clever”, the author tweeted in response to a user’s question. White skin was by no means specified. “Rowling loves black Hermione”, she wrote, adding a kissing emoji.
Born in Swaziland, the 45-year-old actress lived with her South African parents, who were in exile. .
Harry Potter actress Evanna Lynch, who played Luna Lovegood, also showed her support for the casting announcement, writing on Twitter, “Omg, a brand new trio!” Harry will be played by Jamie Parker, Paul Thornley will play Ron, and Noma Dumezweni will play Hermione.
Dumezweni’s casting is the most notable, with many fans praising the choice of a black actress to play Hermione, whose ethnicity is never explicitly mentioned in the books.
The West End show is written by English screenwriter and playwright Jack Thorne and will be produced with Rowling’s collaboration.
Rowling, for her part, continued to share jokes about the many ways readers have imagined the Potter characters over the years.
She has starred in The Winter’s Tale and Romeo and Juliet for the Royal Shakespeare Company and won an Olivier Award in 2006 for her role as Ruth Younger in A Raisin in the Sun.
Begley points to blogs such as Black Girl Dangerous, which suggest that women of colour identify with Hermione, and notes that fans have long discussed her race on social media.
