“We also have other things as well and will use them if necessary”, the Russian president said.

He said such a ceasefire “won’t be ideal, but allows all the parties to turn on what should be our number one focus and that is destroying Islamic State militant group and its allies in the region”.

The Geneva Communique called for political transition in Syria and Tehran never formally embraced it because of the implication that it could mean the end of Assad. Russian Federation launched its intervention in Syria last September, aiming to “target terrorists”.
