Air France said the device was made out of cardboard, paper, and a kitchen timer, and posed no danger.
The 58-year-old man was taken into custody by border police upon his return to France while his wife was also being questioned as a witness, a day after their flight from Mauritius to Paris was diverted to Kenya.
This hoax, the 4th in recent weeks concerning Air France, comes while concerns are heightened regarding extremist violence in a number of countries as well as aggravated jitters among passengers during the holidays.
“After analysis, it has been indicated that it was a false alarm”, said Air France CEO Frederic Gagey of the item that was found in the toilet cubicle on board the plane flying from Mauritius to the French capital. The official, who can’t publicly be identified while speaking regarding an investigation that was still running, didn’t release the name of the suspect or any information regarding what he’s suspected of. A Kenyan cops officers official stated six passengers have been questioned Sun., together with the one in that knowledgeable the crew concerning the device.
The airline said it had filed a complaint for “reckless endangerment” over the incident. It is thought it was constructed while the plane was in the air.
Overwhelmed with relief, passengers arrived safely in Paris on Monday, some crying as they embraced loved ones.
Antoine Dupont, of Lille, said: “I really admired the crew, because they thought it was a real bomb and they remained very serene”.

When a passenger told crew of a package in the toilet on Sunday, the plane landed at Moi International Airport to evacuate its 459 passengers and 14 crew members. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for those attacks and for downing a plane carrying Russian tourists out of Egypt in October. Air France officials said the third hoax was on a December 8 flight from San Francisco to Paris.
