Conspiracy behind Shakur Basti slum demolition in Delhi?
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi were locked in a war of words yesterday over the razing of hutments here and the death of a child, which allegedly happened during the demolition.

Resolving to fight for the poor, Gandhi told the homeless, “Whenever a slum is about to be demolished, call Rahul Gandhi”.
“The Delhi government, according to its policies, will first rehabilitate the slum dwellers and then give back the land to the Railways”, he said.
The Congress leader’s reaction came after AAP members protested against the demolitions in Parliament.
Rahul questioned AAP’s protest and said AAP is in power in Delhi so why are they protesting.
Suresh Prabhu, the Railway Minister has made a statement on the issue of Shakurpur Basti demolition and said that the baby death has nothing to do with demolition He said that the baby lost his life prior to the demolition operation.
AAP government in Delhi has created a storm over the issue alleging the child had died during the demolition drive undertaken by railways. The locals claim the death of a six-month old baby was due to the demolition carried out December 12, but the police say the infant had died before the drive began, when a heap of clothes fell on it.
People who are affected by the demolition drive at the slums next to a railway line in Shaku Basti area on Sunday night.
Accordingly, NHRC has issued notices to the Delhi Chief Secretary and Chairman of the Railway Board seeking reports on the matter within two weeks. “The child had died before the demolition drive”. The deceased’s parents said they didn’t receive consequential help from anyone.
“What was the tearing hurry to demolish Shakur Basti JJ cluster in December?” Dikshit said the demolition of jhuggis could have been done with better coordination between the Centre, state and other agencies at an “appropriate time”.
However, the blame game has also brough Delhi Chief Minister face to face with Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi.

More than 500 slums were demolished in an anti-encroachment drive conducted by the Indian Railways in Shakur Basti on Saturday.
