SpaceX rocket makes historic safe vertical landing
SpaceX has landed its rocket vertically back on Earth after sending satellites into orbit – marking a major step forward in developing cheaper, more accessible space travel. Several other previous attempts to land a Falcon 9 on floating platforms in the Atlantic also were unsuccessful. The rocket landing, while awesome, was a sort of spaceflight gravy. It hopes to resume supply runs for NASA in February.

“A jumbo jet costs about the same as one of our Falcon 9 rockets, but airlines don’t junk a plane after a one-way trip from LA to New York”, SpaceX explained on its blog.
SpaceX nailed the landing and Jeff Bezos was waiting.
Needless to say, it was a tremendous success for SpaceX – especially since it’s the first time someone has landed a rocket that has gone as deep into space. See the video below.
Musk’s logic, as this article in The Verge points out, is that the two feats can not be compared.
This animation shows how the Falcon 9 rocket launched, released 11 satellites into orbit, then flipped before landing about six miles from its launch pad. The different shapes and sizes make the challenges different, therefore.
Monday’s deployment completed a $200 million 17-satellite network that will provide machine-to-machine messaging services on the ground – such as between retailers and shipping containers. These were successfully deployed.
As soon as the employees of SpaceX saw the live footage of the first stage booster lower itself on its predestined spot majestically, they broke into loud cheers. The cooling down of temperatures improves performance of the rocket engines.

Blue Origin successfully landed a rocket last month and got a congratulatory tweet from SpaceX (and Tesla Motors) CEO Elon Musk. “It’s kind of unique”, he said. “Orbital rockets are key to SpaceX’s eventual goal of transporting people to far-away destinations like Mars and then bringing them back home”.
